Pete goes a’Blogging

Peter Glaser All this computer stuff is pretty new to me. I know a lot about sticks and tiles and mudding and flooring and cabinets and plumbing and contracting and construction…..  but computers? Well, honestly, I have been using the beasts for years to do my admin, and I’m pretty good at what I know – you have to be to stay in business as a small, custom remodeling contractor in today’s market.  Hiring a large office staff of college graduates is fine for the big Box Builders who can churn out 100 houses a year – all looking exactly the same.  But for a specialist who builds them all to customer specifications – impossible! All the same, there’s some interesting opportunities to communicate with these new-fangled contraptions and their outgrowths, meaning the internet.  If someone had told me years ago that I’d be blogging, well I’d first take it as an insult.  Just the sound of it is a bit unsettling.  Now, though, I think it’s an interesting way to get my thoughts out there where people can see them. I’ve been doing Custom Additions, Kitchen & Bathroom Remodeling, Custom Tile installation and home construction projects in the DC, MD, VA area now for over 35 years.  I do maybe 2-5 jobs a week, big and small, from a simple bathroom upgrade which can take a day or two to a full-scale addition or kitchen remodeling job which may take a few weeks.  I’ve got good crews, personally trained by me, and they’ve been with me for years.  And although I don’t claim to be the best in the world, I definitely know what I’m doing and I think I’m up there in the top 10%.  In 2009 one of my custom Tile jobs won a COTY Award (Contractor Of The Year) in the DC Metro area, and I’ve been voted “Washington’s Best Contractor” for 2013 and 2014.  I’m pretty proud of stuff like that.  Honestly, we worked our butts off to make sure that our jobs are perfect, and that’s my approach to all of them! I’ve laid tens of thousands of ceramic, glass & marble tiles, done hundreds of bathroom and kitchen remodels, dozens of additions and have many hundreds of satisfied customers; and although I’m bragging, it’s because that’s what I do it for.  Not the buck, but the personal feeling that I’m making a difference in people’s lives by providing them with an environment that they feel good living in.  My crews might be on another job tomorrow, but my customer is going to live in that job for years. I really like what I do, and I like that I’m good at it.  If I wasn’t I’d go do something else.  Maybe if I get the time I’ll do more of this blogging stuff, and type in some of the things my customers have said about me.  (I’ll just give you the good ones, OK?).  Anyway, if you’re reading this and you need a house renovated, or an addition, or a Kitchen, Bathroom or Basement remodeled, give me a call and I’ll come out and let you know what I think.  Maybe you’ll be on my next year’s blog as another satisfied customer.  I hope so. We work exclusively in NW DC, Chevy Chase MD, Bethesda MD, Potomac MD, Rockville MD, Great Falls VA, McLean VA and other areas around the DC Metro area.  You could say we Remodel but also do Historic Renovation, Home Improvement, Custom Tile Work, General Contracting and any kind of construction.  Aside from my own crews I have Plumbers, Electricians and other specialists whom I’ve worked with for years and trust to get the job done right.  Your job! Thanks for reading, and I hope you’ll check out my photo portfolios. I’ve added links on this page, and on the other pages of this site. Please browse the site and see the kind of work we do and feel free to call me directly or use any of the email links on each page.   Pete

  1. Great blog post! When you can feel like you’re making a difference at what you do for a living — that’s a really good feeling. Besides, a well-done tile job is an aesthetic addition to a home.
